Lane Tech Girls Explore Shedd’s Learning Labs (PHOTOS)

Between dissecting and putting a fish under a microscope, this group of students did more than watch the jellyfish.

A group of girls at Lane Technical High School didn’t just go to Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium, they dissected and examined a fish, inside and out.

The Girls in Engineering, Mathematics and Science program visited the aquarium Monday, and in addition to taking in the sights and sounds of the museum, they went behind the scenes to participate in Shedd’s Learning Labs.

“In Mission Marine Habitat, the girls worked in groups to designate a marine protected area,” the club wrote on their website. “…In Exploring Pathology: Fish Dissection, students performed a necropsy in order to diagnose a striped bass. They examined all parts of the fish, recorded their observations, and presented their findings.”
