CHICAGO — A man jumped onto CTA tracks to halt a train as it approached a platform Wednesday, helping to save a woman who stumbled and fell onto the tracks.

As Eddie Palacios, an off-duty TSA worker, went onto the tracks in his orange hoodie and waved at the oncoming train to get the operator's attention others pulled the woman out of harm's way and back onto the platform at the station around 11 a.m.

Jon Hansen, a journalist for DNAinfo Chicago, was on the platform and recorded the episode on video, interviewing Palacios and others who helped the woman.

"I heard somebody yell, 'She fell, she fell! You gotta get out of the way! The train is coming!' So I turned around to see what they were talking about,"  Palacios, 50, told DNAinfo Chicago. "When I saw the train coming, the first thing I thought to myself was, 'OK, I've got an orange hoodie on. They are bound to see me.' And I jumped on the train [tracks] so they can at least see me, and I'd have time [to get] the person out of the way. I was hoping someone would jump down to help [her] up because I could see [she] couldn't get up."

The train slowed to a stop in front of Palacios. The woman was bleeding as she was helped onto the platform and taken for medical attention.

"We're good in America, but we still need each other. That's all I can say," Palacios told Hansen. "I hope one day if I need something, my kids need something, somebody else needs something, somebody will be there. That's what I hope and pray for."
