Police: 6 Armed Robberies Cause Community Alert (MAP)

Chicago's 19th Police District issued the alert, looking for two men who rob residents at gunpoint. They say each incident happened just more than a week apart.

Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) and Chicago’s 19th District Police Station issued a community alert Thursday after six armed robberies July, seemingly by the same two men. 

The alert says in each incident, two men approach victims on the street or in alleys after dark, robbing them of their wallets, money and cell phones at gunpoint.

All six robberies happened in the late evening or early morning a little more than a week apart from each other.

Each incident happened at the following locations:

  • 1500 block of W. Altgeld St. - Jul. 21, 2013, 1:05 a.m.
  • 1500 block of W. George St. - Jul. 21, 2013, 1:15 a.m.
  • 1300 block of W. Grace St. – Jul. 27, 2013, 11:00 p.m.
  • 1200 block of W. Belmont Ave. – Jul. 30, 2013, 4:08 a.m.
  • 4700 block of N. Hermitage Ave. – Jul. 30, 2013, 10:30 p.m.
  • 1400 block of W. Roscoe St. – Jul. 30, 2013, 11:35 p.m.

Police say they’re looking for two men described as either African American or Hispanic. They’re believed to be 18-to 35-years-old, and during two of the robberies, one was described as being bald or having a shaved head, the alert reads.

During each robbery the suspects are seen exiting a vehicle just before the robbery or leaving in one, police said. Victims have given multiple descriptions, saying the car was either a red 2-door Toyota, a beige sedan or a black Chevrolet.

 

What residents can do:

  • Report any suspicious people or vehicles in the area.
  • Be aware of this crime and alert neighbors in the area.
  • Pay special attention to anyone loitering in the area.
  • Call 911 and provide a detailed description of the offender(s) including any vehicle description, license plate information and direction of flight.
